Michael Braun

Managing Director

Michael Braun joined Hamlin Capital Advisors in 2014 as a Managing Director. He has 15 years of investment banking experience, including an extensive background developing education-related credits and executing both institutionally based and public-private initiated financings. He also has served as a day-to-day banker for charter schools, colleges, universities, private and parochial K-12 schools, and an array of not-for-profit entities.

Michael’s experience has involved numerous economic, legal and credit structures, including fixed-rate debt, variable-rate debt, direct bank placements, letters of credit, interest-rate swaps and the bond rating process. He has served as lead banker on more than $600 million of debt issuance for charter schools.

After beginning his career as an analyst with Lancaster Pollard & Co., Michael spent a decade with Ziegler Capital Markets Group, working his way up from an associate to a director. During his tenure, he led the firm in financing for the charter school movement. After executing the firm’s first charter school transaction in 2006, he led its origination and banking group to the #1 overall ranking in charter school debt volume in 2011 and 2012.

In Michael’s most recent role prior to joining Hamlin Capital Advisors, he was a managing director with BB&T Capital Markets. He served as the co-head of the education finance group responsible for overseeing all aspects of client engagements, managing the analytical team, developing a marketing strategy and executing the business plan. Notably, he served as the lead banker on the largest charter school bond underwriting nationally in 2013 ($80.5 million).

Michael received a bachelor’s degree in finance from The Ohio State University.
